Louie the Neapolitan Mastiff

I am a little late in figuring out how to start a blog so I will be backtracking in this post. Louie my 3 year 8 month old 172 pound Neapolitan Mastiff was diagnosed in late July 2015 with osteosarcoma in his left front leg. After much thought and the constant back and forth emotions of whether to amputate or not, I finally opted to at least take a chance and give my boy a shot at being pain free and happy for as long as we might be lucky enough to get. I had great fears about his size negatively affecting the outcome of the amputation and in the beginning it did. It is now 6 weeks since the amputation and the sleepless nights, wondering if I made the right decision, the days I wondered if my boy would ever be able to hop more then a few steps, the pain meds, the whimpering that tore at my heart…….all this is now behind us and it is full steam ahead! Louie is not only hopping around fine but even running for short sprints after his ball! He is happy and acting like his old self again! Yesterday was his first chemo treatment with Carboplatin <sp> We started chemo later then I would have liked. I will write more about that tomorrow. Just wanted to get started on our blog 🙂  Better late then never!!IMG_0371
