chemo reactions?
Well I guess I spoke too soon because as of Saturday night Louie does not want to eat his normal food. He came back to the barn to help me with the horses on Saturday morning and I really think it took a lot out of him. He didn’t drink much yesterday but today he is drinking a lot. I am feeding him out of a plastic dish since his treatment on Thursday because I have heard some don’t like eating or drinking out of metal. Oh he WILL eat donuts 🙂  and has eaten 2 pretzels and even Boars Head Turkey and Roast beef when offered. But not his normal food which I put his k9 immunity chews in. I might have to sneak them into some roast beef. He is also very quiet and sleeping a lot the last 2 days. I am hoping this is all normal post chemo treatment reactions. I was so hoping he would sail through. And this was only the first one. They will check blood work on Thursday. So that is all I have to write about today. Hopefully he is his old self tomorrow.

I believe this is probably normal chemo reactions. It does take a lot out of them and is quite exhausting. Also, I have heard that chemo can change the palate in general so perhaps his food doesn’t taste the same (if he’s eating donuts or pretzels). I would say add some stuff he does like, like the deli meat, or some broth/stock. I had to do that for Shelby after her treatments too.
Good luck!

Keep holding out for those donuts Louie! But you DO have ro eat some good stuff too!
Because Happy Hannah was one of the ones who did seem to sail through her chemo, I can’t offer any first hand experience.
I can tell you that, based on the experiences of others, the loss of appetite and being tired seems to be the symptoms related ro chemo sometimes.
DO NOT HESITATE to call his Onco for reassurance though! We’re paying alot of hard earned dollars for their expertise! I think the fact that he is eating and drinking okay shows he’s not as badly effected as others. And even the tiredness could be that he did overdo it yesterday a d is a bit sore as a result. Ne is no longer in pain and is having a ball soaking up all the loving and spoiling! I bet he really enjoyed going to the barn though!
And again, check with your vet, but they can also adjust doses, etc. a bit if there seems to be any real concern.
So, not much help ….other than to remind you to BE MORE LOUIE! He’s not worrying about a thing! He’s just enjoying each and every mome t and isn’t focused on how far he walked, how much he slept or whether donuts are considered a nutritional part of a dog’s diet! Ahhhh….the bliss of being dog!!
And keep those pictures coming…and video too! Lovin’ this big mush of a dog!!
Sending lots of love…and a box of donuts!!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

some of them are tired for a couple days and loose a bit of appetite. good to get a blood work up early then they can adjust or give some meds to help combat the side effects. try some good food too, he needs his strength. I was given an awesome tip of, french toat with NO butter, or also scrambled eggs. they are good protein and energy, and my girl gobbled it up. She didnt have a reaction to the IV chemo but she did have a reaction to the palladia.
Best advise, just keep in touch with your onco, get blood work when you feel something isnt right and all will be ok. My girl snapped out of being tired after a couple days, her worst days were the first couple then she bounced back.
Good luck and much love to you both.
